Coffee is now living in San Jose with his foster mum and his foster brother and sister. He loves going for walks in the morning with his pack and strolling round the garden on his wheels. He enjoys playing with his foster sister and his favorite toy is his nylabone chewbone. His foster mum reports that helping Coffee go to the bathroom is easier than she thought it would be, but it would even easier if Coffee would stand still - he just wants to give kisses and sniff the grass!
Coffee was paralyzed probably due to being hit by a car and sent to a shelter in northern Taiwan last September. Two animal lovers in Taiwan heard this news from the Internet and decided to take him away from the danger of euthanasia. They also found that his vocal cord had been cut so he cannot bark as loudly as a normal dog.
Coffee's rescuers sought the best medical treatment for him. He stayed in the hospital where he was treated for decubitus ulcers (pressure sores) and skin lichen. His skin is fully recovered now having received far infrared irradiation and rehabilitation treatment, including acupuncture therapy. He is now able to stand for 1-2 minutes at a time and can prop up his lower limbs while dragging his body for movement, which will help lower the chance of him developing any further decubitus ulcers. He is in great physical condition, having had all his vaccinations and he now weighs over 30 lbs.
Coffee is very energetic. Though he can run as fast as a beagle with four working legs while on his cart, he does need some extra attention. He needs help to be put on his cart for 30 to 60 minutes a few times a day. He is housebroken but with his paralysis, he needs to be taken outside about 4 times a day and requires a little assistance to go to the bathroom.
Coffee is expecting a family who is willing to wholeheartedly accept his paralysis, bathroom assistance and possible occasional decubitus ulcer, and can offer him a yard where he can run and explore on his cart. Coffee is nice and friendly to everyone. Though he cannot bark normally as other dogs, he is very enthusiastic about guarding his home. He is smart and learns good manners fast with only very preliminary training. He is a bit naughty but knows when to stop as long as instructions are given in time.
Please contact Mandy to learn more about Coffee or fill out the online adoption application.

Lucy
Age: 10 years
Sex: female spayed
Temperament: Sweet, lovable
Medical: Current on Shots
Height: 15”
Weight good/healthy
Good with: Dogs: Yes Kids & Cats: unknown
Hi! My name is Lucy, I am a sweet and lovable companion for you. Did you see my sweet white face? I am crate trained, love to sit in the sun, and follow my human around. I am a good snuggler too. Idon’t mind being in a crate either
I was a stray that came from the Stockton shelter. The nice folks at Beagle Rescue came to my rescue and took me in. I like being by myself, but I also play with my other doggie pals in my foster home too. I’m pretty easygoing.
If you’re looking for a sweet, lovable addition to your family then I’m your girl. Please email Eva, so I can find my new forever family.
Lily was surrendered to a shelter after her owner’s health failed and there was no one else was able to step forward to care for Lily. Lily is a very sweet beagle who loves companionship. She is a total housedog and enjoys the companionship of people and dogs too. She does not realize that cats are wonderful friends and will torment and chase them when given the chance. Lily loves to go for a car ride and going for a walks. She is a little overweight however she is well on her way to regaining her beautiful beagle figure. Lily is also crate trained and when her foster mom is gone from the home Lilly will settle in her crate to sleep until her foster mom returns. Lily is a wonderful beagle and is ready for a new family who will love and spoil her with kindness.
Please contact Eva to make arrangements to welcome Lily into your home or fill out the online adoption application.
My name is Webster, I am 15 months old and was previously a research beagle. I have been with my foster parents since February 9th and how I have changed! I’m not so timid anymore and I have so much energy and love exploring this whole new outside world. I love playing with doggie toys, cuddling with my foster parents, and running around everywhere. I’m not even scared of the vacuum or lawn mower, which I hear is very un-beagle like. I love going to the dog park and am doing really good on leash to go on walks. I am curious about everything but don’t get into much trouble even though I am a puppy. But I have to admit, my favorite place to lay is on the couch or on the stairs, I am just used to seeing the world a little higher up so that is where I am most comfortable. I am almost house trained, thanks to the doggie door and watching the other dogs here use it all day long. I would be very happy to be in a family with at least one other dog as I get along with all breeds at the dog park, although I love beagles most. I even get to see kids sometimes at the dog park and they are fun too. I am not even scared of strangers and let anyone that is willing pet me. I am a very happy little guy and am so grateful to have my new life, I wag my tail all the time! My foster parents say they will miss me so much but I know I have a happy life ahead of me with a great family.
Webster will need a family that is loving, patient, and willing to train him. He will need potty and leash training, and lots of love, and another dog to play with and learn from. A home with a yard and indoor/outdoor access would be great too.
Hi, Everyone. My name is Wanda. I'm a Chihuahua who somehow ended up here in Beagle Rescue. I guess they're branching out. I'm so grateful that they also take in us needy dogs who aren't beagles.
I'm 2 - 3 years old. Mommy says I'm nicer than the average Chihuahua. Some of us snap at people we don't know. I would never do that. I'm a little timid at first, but I love to be held. Because I have such a good disposition, I would be a great companion if you want a little girl who can go places with you. I have a large scar on my side from an old injury, so I won't win any beauty contests, but the kind of person I'm looking for knows that beauty is on the inside, not on the outside.
My favorite place to be is with you. I'll want to be in your lap as much as you'll let me be there. We Chihuahuas bond very closely and completely with our people. I need to find someone who will allow me to form that bond and who will love me as much as I can love.
If you're a person who is beautiful on the inside like I am, and the kind of person who will make a lifetime commitment to a little girl like me, please contact my foster mom, Suzy, to learn more.
Little Sal is quite the bundle of joy and ENERGY for a little guy!
At just one year old he is all the fun and entertainment of a puppy. He is extremely sweet and really loves the attention of anyone who comes his way. At the dog park he was going around the fence and meeting everyone who was standing nearby or walking nearby – wagging his tail furiously and jumping up and down – as if to say – come meet me! He also really enjoyed the ‘big’ dogs at the dog park. He wasn’t afraid and ran around having a grand time. So he would do very well in a home with another dog, even a big one!
He is also really enjoying his side-kick Barnaby (see separate bio on Barnaby!). They run and play throughout the day, but taking nice long puppy naps as well. Sal thoroughly enjoys napping on your lap or just standing with paws up in the perfect ‘pet me’ position. He hasn’t shown any bad behavior signs like food aggression or counter surfing. He has discovered and loves a nice cushy pillow or dog bed for his snoozing.
He would be great with another younger, active dog in the household or as an only pet if there were people around during the day. He is really smart and learned the dog door within 24 hours. He is also 99% housebroken after just one week, even going out in the rain. He is still learning his manners so some puppy training will go a long way but he will learn quickly!
He loves the grass, trees and plants and cruises the backyard taking it all in. He even stands up on the edge of potted plants to peek in and sniff. He is enjoying his freedom from the research lab and is taking full advantage of the world and wonderful people and things in it.
Please consider this wonderful beagle as a part of your family. He and Barnaby would also make a great pair if you are looking to double your fun!
Please contact Cynthia for more information on adopting a research beagle and please fill out the Online Adoption Application to be considered.
Hi, my name is Scout, and I live up to my name. I come from the country where I was in charge of keeping the critters off my family’s property. I came to live with my foster mom, when my dad’s construction business is not doing well and then their daughter, my human sister, was hurt very, very badly and had to be move home, leaving no time or extra money for me. I don’t like anything on my property that is not suppose to be there so that means cats, rabbits, and birds are not my friends and I will escort them off the property. I love people and other dogs, but I don’t like to be left alone so I will need another dog to keep me company when my humans are away. I am a purebred, 15-inch beagle, who was born on February 21, 2005. I am very youthful and love to run and play but I will also lie down and enjoy quiet time with my human family. I am hoping to find my forever family who will love me as much as I will love them. Please contact Eva to learn more about me!
Bagel is a 7 year old beagle - very loving and sweet. She has been spayed and is current on all her shots. She is great with other dogs and loves people. Like most beagles she has a wandering streak and so she must be kept in a secure yard or she will go exploring. If she gets out she's very easy to tempt back home with a treat since she loves food! Due to a change in our family situation she needs a new home and would love to stay with her daughter, Licorice.
Licorice is a 5 year old beagle and is one of the smartest dogs I've ever encountered! She is a canine Houdini and can escape from her yard quite easily - so her quarters must be kept secure or she will end up exploring the neighborhood. She is extremely smart and loving and is friendly with all other dogs and humans. She likes food, but isn't quite as attached to it as most other beagles are. She has been spayed and is current on all her shots. Due to a change in our family situation Licorice needs a new home and would love to stay with her 7 year old mother, Bagel.
Snoopy is a very sweet affectionate dog. She is friendly, great with kids, and very gentle (never aggressive). She has lived in foggy San Francisco, so she is indoors a lot, but we have avoided accidents by giving her doggy door access to the backyard throughout the day. She also uses the bathroom like clockwork when walked after meals. She is in good health and still very playful, but with age we try to be gentle when playing with or handling her. She has been an "only child" but I think she wouldn't mind living with other gentle dogs for a change in her new home.
Snoopy likes a lot of attention. And she lives up to her name -- she loves to snoop around. Unfortunately, she has grown bored of our small house and small urban backyard, and impatient with our busy schedule. Now that the kids have moved out, she has three fewer playmates. She's not shy about complaining about this (barking and howling), and if she has been couped up inside all day and if we are not strict with her meals and recreation schedule, she will fall out of rhythm and wake up at night demanding a midnight snack.
Snoopy has brought a lot of joy to our lives, and we hate to part with her, but we feel like we owe her a better living situation to spend her her golden years. We cannot emphasize how sweet and friendly of a companion Snoopy is. We imagine the perfect new home for Snoopy having more space to explore, more playmates, more consistent/available caretakers (we both work full-time), and perhaps a few more squirrels to chase. Snoopy is a great walking partner and she is a bubbly person-magnet. And while she loves attention, sometimes all she needs is some company while she's cuddled up napping in her bed. While Snoopy is based in San Francisco, we are happy to travel as far as she needs to reach the perfect new home. Contact Dan to learn more about Snoopy.
Laney is a 4 year old, approx. 40lb, Beagle Boxer mix. She is a very lovable sweetheart who was rescued from the Bakersfield shelter. Her foster home in San Francisco has found her to be fully house broken and trained as an excellent walking companion, on and off leash. She would do best with someone who works from home.
She is comfortable in the car. She needs vigorous exercise but is mellow indoors. She loves to play with other dogs; cats are an unknown. She seems fine around kids. Although initially skittish around men, she comes around in time. Laney is in excellent health and up to date on all shots, heart worm, and general vet checks. For more information, contact Eva.
Laney is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
Hi, Everyone. My name is Bessie Mae Beaglegirl. I'm 7 years old, and I live to have fun. Don't let my overweight physique fool you. I'm an active girl. I love to run and play with toys. I'm here at the Beagle Fat Farm with other overweight beagles who can hardly move. I might look like one of them, but I am not one of them. I came up here from Southern California because a foster home wanting an older, very overweight beagle couldn't be found closer. Mommy thought she was getting one of her typical slow-moving overweight foster girls when she said she would take me. Instead, she got me.
I'm a small 13-inch beagle weighing in at 38 pounds. I don't have a thyroid condition so don't have to take those little pills that so many overweight beagles have to take. I've just been overfed. What can I say, I love to eat. I don't have any health issues at all, I just need to find a home where food will be given to me sparingly.
Mommy says I'm a real character. I'm always getting into things, but I never destroy anything. I'm just curious. I have lots of personality. No one here would throw a ball for me, so I threw it for myself. Then when I couldn't find the ball because I threw it too far, I picked up my doggie bed and tossed that across the room. I was just rearranging my furniture. Mommy says she never knows what I'm going to do next, but whatever it is will be entertaining.
I'm an affectionate little girl. I'll sleep on my bed, wherever it lands, or I'll sleep in bed with you. I love to be on your lap. I can't jump much yet, so I'll need some help getting up on your bed or lap. I don't bark much except at dinner time. Then I'm just trying to hurry you up because I'm hungry.
If you're looking for a middle-aged girl who is still very active, are willing to help me with my diet, and want a girl with more personality than most, I could be the girl for you. I traveled a long ways to look for my new home. I'm looking for someone who is as capable of loving as I am. I'll accept a few quirks in your behavior if you'll accept a few in mine. If you're interested in learning more about me, please contact my foster mom, Suzy.

Hi! My name is Beagan, and this is my second time in rescue. I was adopted a few years ago, but my name was AJ. I am back here because my new mom passed away. I miss her and am looking for a new forever home.
My foster mom says I am a good cuddler and I don’t bark much at all, very un-Beagle like. I’ll join in if others are barking. I do have a little separation anxiety so someone with a flexible schedule or someone who stays at home would be best. I also really hate being in a crate, so please don’t put me in one.
If you’re looking for a sweet, lovable addition to your family then I’m your boy. Please email Eva, so I can find my new forever family.
Hi, my name is Lucy, and I one of the research beagles that was lucky enough to come to live with my foster mom just before Christmas, it was my best Christmas present ever. I am learning lots every day, but I still have trouble with not going inside the house, I am sure given a little more one on one help I can learn to go outside. I love to play with dogs, cats, kids, and will sit in your lap all day long if that is what you want. I don’t have a mean bone in my body. I have learned to walk on a leash, but since I have not seen everything, I might need a little reassurance when I see something new. My foster mom thinks I am just about perfect; I just need a family to love. Please contact Elizabeth to learn more about me!
If you are interested in possibly adopting a research beagle you meet the minimum requirements:
1. Already have another beagle or dog in the household or
2. Have someone at home to care for the young dog or
3. Have had previous experience with a beagle for training purposes.
NOTE: Only applications with the above minimum requirements will be considered.
Please read the following document concerning RESEARCH BEAGLES.
Mina was found by a student as a stray with an injured foot and was taken to an animal hospital. Her injured foot is now fully recovered and she walks fine.
Mina is about 3 or 4 years old and around 44 lb. Mina is affectionate, steady, stable, easy-going yet a playful active companion and loves to be with people. She gets along with other dogs and cats and is submissive. She loves kids. She has been around small children and is such a lady while young kids are around. She likes to be walked and will "heel" when being walked. She is also house-trained. She is a little bit aggressive with food but after she realizes the food comes regularly, she is ok. She doesn’t like to stay inside the crate.
Last December, she was treated for two small growths on one of her front paws and inside her ear. The lab tests found they were non-invasive and they were removed. After the surgery and medication, Mina recovered very well. The recent vet check confirmed Mina is now very healthy. Mina has tested negative for heartworms and is current on all shots. She is currently fostered in Taiwan.
Mina has been looking for a forever home with a loving heart which she deserves. If you are one of those special people who will take wonderful care of her and knows what really counts, please complete an Online Adoption Application.
About International Adoption: Since Mina is not in the US, we shall have you meet Mina virtually via videos and facilitate communication between you and Mina’s foster family in Taiwan to address all your questions and concerns. We might schedule a home visit or have you send us your home pictures as an alternative. Once the adoption contract is signed, Mina will be brought from Taiwan to the U.S. with a volunteer passenger by flight. Our volunteer will meet you at SFO to assist with the transfer and necessary paperwork. Mina will come with a microchip which will need to be registered in the U.S.

Joe Joe
Age: 6 years
Sex: male neutered
Owner Assisted Placement
JoeJoe was adopted by my mom in 2007 when she was dying of cancer. She LOVED beagles and that was her only wish. He was an abused dog that needed a very loving home. He is a good dog, that rode in the car with her, lived in the house, and was spoiled rotten. Then she passed away on Christmas day 2007. My dad was so heartbroken and not in the best health, that he asked if i would take him, or he would have to take him back to the shelter. I took him in and he gets along great with my 8 other dogs.
We have allowed JoeJoe to live inside and he is a very happy guy. He is about 6 years old and has been nuetered, up to date on vaccines and we treat him for heartworm since we live in the woods.
Unfortunately, my neighbors do not want to understand that a beagle barks. when i let him outside he runs around and barks and chases people while they are walking their dogs. Since i have 8 other dogs I truly feel JoeJoe deserves a life that he was used to. Riding in cars and having one to one attention. My dad said he never barked when he had the attention they gave him. He is wonderful with all of my dogs, good with cats, and just loves children. My 8 year old daughter has dressed him up and played with him since 2007. He is also good around our horse. I only want the best for JoeJoe because he is so special to me.
Walter is a very friendly and outgoing boy. Since he is a research dog, he needs to learn some manners, but he is very sweet and is learning about treats for good behavior. After only 24 hours he is already using the dog door, although hesitantly. In no time and he will be a master! He is quick to understand that treats follow good actions and like other research dogs, he is unfamiliar tasty treats so is hesitant to try new food. He is also not too sure about dog toys - especially the squeaky ones! He is very concerned about the tv, cautiously approaching then running away! I am sure there will be many hours of entertainment from Walter as he learns about the world.
He loves everyone he meets and plays well with other dogs. If you are sitting down, he will happily come up and put his front paws on your lap and wait patiently for a head pet. He is learning about the outside and is still very concerned about grass and rain. He has not had any inside accident. He is willing to go on walks, but is not too confident on a walk usually staying behind everyone else. He is confident with his tail high in the air. He is really enjoying exploring his inside and especially his outside environment.
Walter should have a home where he can become part of the family while having access to a secure yard. He is 5 years old and has never been outside until December 12. He deserves to have a home with someone who can offer him many happy years of enjoying sunshine, grass, trees and leaves and all the wonderful smells Beagles love.
Most research dogs are stressed when crated for long periods of time and should not be left in a crate during the day if the owners work.
Instead they should have some kind of indoor/outdoor access. They are de-barked so they won't bother your neighbors and they are not used to having people around all day, so working families would be a good fit as well.
Walter would do very well with another older dog in the house to help show him the ropes. He and his brother Archie are also a wonderful pair as they get along great and even snuggle up during the day outside and inside during the evening.
Please consider Walter as a wonderful, loving addition to your family.
Hi, Friends. Mommy told me that I have to either write an update to my old bio or write a completely new one because the old bio isn't true anymore.
When I arrived in rescue, I was completely blind. One of my eyes was bulging out of my head. I wasn't pretty to look at. Mommy took me to the doctor right away, and my bad eye was removed. The doctor said to not be surprised if some vision returned to my good eye after the bad eye was removed. Well, that's exactly what happened! Can you imagine what it was like to be completely blind and then have the vision gradually return? I didn't think I would ever see again. I'll never have 20/20 vision, but it's enough that I don't run into things anymore, and I'll be able to see the beautiful face of the person who adopts me.
Like most dachshunds, I'm a lap dog. I'd be content to stay in your lap full time. I walk well on a leash. I don't bark a lot like many dachshunds do. I'm a tweenie weighing in at 14 - 15 pounds, just the right size for your lap.
When I was blind, I didn't have a good appetite. They would feed me by hand here, which was very nice of them. Now that I can see, I eat out of a dish like any other dog. I'm vision impaired, but I don't have to be treated nearly as much like a special needs dog as I did when I arrived.
If you're looking for a girl who knows how to love her person, and if you're a person who has a lot of love to give to your dog, please contact my foster mom, Suzy, to learn more about me.
Betty is a cute girl about 4 years old. More than a year ago when she’s 2, she was abandoned on a busy street and had a car accident causing her leg broken. With big pain, she still strived to drag her broken leg and move forward. Someone saw her and asked for help online. The posting read: it is pouring now and she’s standing in the rain on the road without knowing where she should go. It must hurt a lot but all I can do is to give her some food. Is there anybody can help her, please?
One no-kill private shelter then rescued Betty and provided her medical treatment. She had a surgery to fix her broken leg with an internal nail. While Betty’s life seemed getting better, the shelter owner left dogs unattended without any notice due to some personal financial issue this February. There’s only one lady who used to help the shelter stayed with the dogs until help arrived.
In a month with help from various individual dog lovers and organizations, shelter dogs were taken care of and Betty was arranged to stay with her current foster mum. With her foster’s care, Betty’s leg was recovered but she’s a little bit crippled. However, her walking is not impeded at all. Betty LOVES food; she gained much weight this year and is a little bit overweight at 32 lb. Her foster mum is keeping her on diet now, trying to keep her in shape. Betty has a very good temperament. While Betty is a typical beagle who is energetic and playful, she is calm and mellow. She loves being with people, is gentle with kids, likes snuggling and enjoys head scratch, cuddling and a feeling of being home. Betty gets along with other fostered dogs. She likes to spend her afternoon by playing with her fostered sisters and brothers in the yard, lying under the sun in the yard or taking a nap in the house, waiting for her foster mum to come home.
Betty is always happy even though she has been through a lot in her life. She deserves a family who can love her forever and give her a home she’s longing for, where she can enjoy walking, exercising, and playing with her beloved family members every day. When Betty finds a home, her foster mum would be able to help another dog in need.
If Betty touches your heart, if you are this special person who does not care about her being a little bit crippled, is willing to open your heart and home to love Betty forever, please complete anOnline Adoption Application.
About International Adoption: Since Betty is not in the US, we shall have you meet Betty virtually via videos and facilitate communication between you and Betty’s foster in Taiwan to address all your questions and concerns. We might schedule a home visit or have you send us your home pictures as an alternative. Once the adoption contract is signed, Betty will be brought from Taiwan to the U.S. with a volunteer passenger by flight. Our volunteer will meet you at SFO to assist the dog transfer and necessary paperwork. Betty will come with microchip but you will need to register it in the U.S. when you take her to your vet.
Hi, Everyone. I've been in rescue a long time now. Mommy said I have to write a new bio because all my old information isn't true anymore.
I'm now 9 years old and still waiting to find a home. I'm a very good boy. That's why Mommy doesn't mind if I stay here, but even though I'm treated well here, I think it's time I moved on to a forever home. There's just something about being called a "foster dog" that makes me feel insecure. I want a forever home.
When I arrived in rescue, I weighed 54 pounds. I was huge! Mommy put me on a diet, and I've been sticking to it. I'm now a healthy 30+ pounds and am very handsome.
I'm not a dog that does well on a leash. I pull something terrible. I need to find someone with enough energy and strength to control me. I know I would get better with practice. Either I need a very strong person or someone who doesn't want to walk their dog at all. I'm very content to be in the house or running around in an enclosed backyard. I love to chase squirrels and can get my exercise that way.
I'm completely potty trained, which is more than I can say about some of the foster dogs here. Even if they have an accident in the house, I'll walk right past that accident and take care of my business outside like any gentleman will do. I look upon them with shame. They give foster dogs a very bad reputation.
If you're looking for a boy who is mature yet has a lot of good years left in him, please contact my foster mom, Suzy, to learn more about me.
Buddy - (Adoption Pending)
Age: 15 mths
Sex: male neutered
Buddy is an adorable and super excited little boy, and was born in October 2008, so is still a young pup. He is a former medical research beagle, which means he has lived his entire life in a research facility. So in his foster home he is learning what grass is, a leash, a couch, a bed, kisses, and love.
Buddy is a very sweet little boy and is curious of everything. He will need to go to a home that already has another dog to learn from and play with. He also needs a back yard with indoor/outdoor acces (doggy door).
Buddy will need continued reinforcement of all the good things home life has to offer. He will also need a family with dog experience, to potty and leash train him.

CHARLIE-CARLO's
Age: 1.5 yrs
Sex: male neutered
Meet Charlie! Charlie is a 1 ½ year old Doxin/Terrier mix that came into Beagle Rescue. Although he is not a Beagle, he masquerades as one and he asked his friends at Beagle Rescue to help him find his forever home. Charlie is a very sweet and gentle boy that would make a great addition to a family (especially in a beagle house-hold!) since he is very well behaved, is house-trained and crate-trained. Charlie is quite obedient, knows how to use the doggie door and his basic commands. He loves getting lots of attention and going for long walks. Charlie weighs in at 14 lbs., is neutered and up-to-date with all of his shots. Please contact Pearl for more information on Charlie.
Calvin is a 4 year old former research beagle who has been neutered and is up-to-date with his shots. Calvin has spent 4 years as a research beagle, and as a result is very timid, but we are seeing progress every day. Calvin is very sweet and gentle and is learning just how wonderful a lap to rest in can be. Calvin is not leash trained yet and is very slowly being introduced to a doggy door. Depsite that, his accidents in the house have been very minimal.
Older children (10+) would probably be the most ideal situation. Calvin is more heisitant with men, but he is overcoming that fear. Calvin needs a family with lots of love and patience who can let him move at his own pace and can celebrate the smallest of achievements with him. If you have lots of love to give and want to watch a dog blossom, Calvin may be the dog for you.
Requirements for adoption: You MUST have at least one other dog in your home for the dog to learn from; this makes life better for the dogs and the humans for Calvin to acclimate to home life. A stay at home parent or a family with a flexible schedule is a plus. Doggy doors or some kind of access to the outdoors is necessary, especially while you are away from home during the day. They are good with cats and children. They will need to be leash trained as they have never been on a walk. They will also need to be house broken; crate training will certainly come in use during this time.
Please contact Sondra for more information on adopting a research beagle and please fill out the Online Adoption Application to be considered.
Hi, Everyone. I'm another dachshund taken in by the Beagle Rescue people. For the rest of my life I'll be grateful to them.
My name is Dixie, and I'm 10 years old. I came into rescue weighing 22 pounds. I could hardly walk at that weight. I'm now down to 19 pounds. Not only can I now walk, I can run! You don't know what it's like to be so heavy with your own weight that you can't get around at all. I don't have a thyroid condition, I've just been overfed and neglected. My ideal weight would be about 15 pounds. They call dachshunds like me tweenies. We're too big to be miniatures and too small to be standards.
I'm an older girl looking for another older girl to take care of me. We dachshunds naturally have long life spans, so I plan to be around for many years and will also take care of you. I'm the kind of girl who loves to be in your lap. I still can't jump much, so I'll need some help getting there, but I'll stay there as long as you'll let me. I'm completely potty trained. I use the doggie door. At first I could hardly step through it, now it's a breeze. Even when I was so heavy, I struggled through the doggie door because I knew I had to. I'll even go through that door into the pouring rain to take care of my business. Mommy loves me for that. I'm very good on a leash, so we can take some nice walks together.
I had very bad teeth when I arrived in rescue. Most of them had to be removed, so I eat canned food -- low cal only, if you please. I'm taking my diet very seriously. I like being mobile again and intend to stay that way.
If you're an older girl in need of a loyal companion, I could be the tweenie girl for you. I'm looking for someone who will make a lifetime commitment to me. I'm ready to make that commitment to you. Please contact my foster mom, Suzy, to learn more about me.
Hi there, beagle lovers. My name is Raider - I'm 6 years young and am looking for a new home to call my own. My former owners had to surrender me because of the economy. I don't exactly know what an economy is except that it's bad enough to leave me homeless. But these nice people with beagle rescue decided to keep me with them for a little while until someone special comes along...I'll know them when I meet them, so I'm not too worried.
So, let me tell you a little bit about myself - I come with some manners, lots of toys (as you know, beagles just love toys!), a crate, and a heart full of love. I just love my cozy bed and feel safe on it, but I gotta say that my favorite place is right by your side. I get along well with other dogs and I like cats, but sometimes I chase them. I can't help it - they call that instinct, apparently. Running is lots of fun and if you have something handy to run after, like a cat, well I just can't help myself - it's so darn fun!
I am having lots of fun at my foster home but sometimes I wonder where my future family is and when they'll find me. I'm not really asking much. I'm already current on all of my vaccinations & am neutered; I just need a family of my own to love. Is that too much to ask? I know I have a lot of love to give and will be a loyal and trusted companion.
Would you like to meet me? Please contact CJ or fill out the online adoption application.
Temperament: Energetic, Playful

Height: 15” Weight: 28lbs (a little too thin)
Good with:
Dogs: Yes
Kids: Probably
Cats: Unknown
Come meet me at the Petsmart Adoption Event in Sacramento this Saturday!
Hi! My name is Cooper, and I am a very enthusiastic puppy and love to run and play. I could run for hours at the dog park and I get along with all the dogs there. I am very comfortable with all people and I love to get pet all the time. I am potty trained and do really good with a doggie door so I can go out frequently to explore.
I get a little anxious when my foster parents leave, I don't really like to be left alone. I’m not fond of being in a crate either. I prefer to find a family that is home a lot and can give me lots of attention.
I came to Beagle Rescue from a local shelter. I was adopted, but the folks didn’t do all the paperwork to have me live in their apartment. So here I am.
If you’re looking for an energetic, lovable addition to your family then I’m your guy. Please email my foster mom Karen, so I can find my forever family.
Hi my name is Bella! I am the best Beagle girl ever, so PLEASE adopt me before my foster parents do! I was rescued from a research facility and am looking for the perfect home. I am a year and a half old and weigh approximately 20 pounds, so I am a little on the thin side. Until a few weeks ago I didn’t even know what TREATS were (now I love them)! I am also learning how to enjoy the finer things in life and love being in my new environment. I am happy to say I know how to use the doggy door and I have mastered walking on a leash. This isn't very common for a research Beagle so my foster parents are very proud of how well I have done with my leash training. I am so good that my foster daddy takes me on daily walks with my other beagle pals.
I am still learning what it means to go potty outside, however my foster dad is very patient with me and is showing me the ropes. I am learning that when I do something “good” I will be given a treat or a doggy toy to play with. What fun I have running around with a squeaky toy in my mouth playing “keep away” from my other Beagle buddies. I am not much into sleeping in my crate with the door closed, but if you leave it open I settle right in and usually stay there for the night. If you are looking for the sweetest girl, I’m the one for you. Irresistible best describes me.
P.S. I am also debarked but that doesn’t stop me from letting out a whine and every now and then.
If you would like to open your heart and home to me, please contact my foster mom, Sandy, or fill out the online adoption application.
Requirements for adoption: You must have at least one other dog in your home for the dog to learn from. A stay at home parent or a family with a flexible schedule is a plus. Doggy doors or some kind of access to the outdoors is necessary, especially while you are away from home during the day. They are good with cats and children. They will also need to be house broken; crate training will certainly come in use during this time.
Hello there, my name is Sissy, won’t you adopt me? I am a beautiful tricolor, a good weight at 27 pounds, and I am very self-confident and busy. The first day in my foster home I went right to my foster parent’s bed and snuggled with them. I also love to curl up on the couch and take a nap. I am a mature adult, however sometimes I don’t act like it; I can outrun the younger dogs in my foster home!
I have an extra long tongue that usually sticks out of my mouth even when I’m sleeping. I had a vet checkup and my teeth cleaned and am ready for a new home. I just need a loving home and I will take care of you. I am fine with other dogs; not sure about cats. I am not a barker and respond well to commands. I will make sure that your yard and house are safe as I am always on patrol. I do like to eat so need to be fed separately as sometimes I try to eat other dog’s food. I like to play ball and jump and romp with other dogs. I am learning how to use the doggy door at my foster home; however I will need a home with a secure yard as I like to dig sometimes.
My foster mom says I am the sweetest girl ever, and deserve a safe and happy home. I will be your best friend for life, and can’t wait to find a new home. I get along with other dogs, but if you are a stay at home parent that will be fine too.
Meet Buddy. He is a very energetic three year old, very sweet beagle boy who is quite active and loves to play! Buddy is neutered and up to date with all of his shots and is in good health. He sleeps in his crate every night, is house trained, knows how to use the doggie door and loves to play with children and other doggies.
He is generally very affectionate with people, can be a bit shy but once he warms up to you, can be very loving. He would make a great addition to a family that is looking for fun and active beagle. Buddy loves to go on long walks, still needs a little help with the leash but otherwise, he is good beagle boy!
Barnaby - (Adoption Pending)
Age: 1 yr
Sex: male neutered
When we picked up Barnaby he was so excited he was actually, physically flipping head over heels and jumping for joy. Just like little Sal (see separate bio) he is extremely sweet and enjoys the company of people and his buddy Sal. They run and play throughout the day, but take nice long puppy naps as well.
Barnaby is very clear about his plans. If you are sitting down, he will jump up on your lap and snuggle in for a good nap. He also is a smooth operator when it comes to dinner time, quickly finishing up his bowl and s-l-i-d-i-n-g into Sal and gently moving him aside to ‘help’ him finish up his dinner. He graciously accepts being physically removed from his ill-gotten dinner with no growling or bad behavior. So while he does enjoy more than his fair share, he isn’t aggressive when being reprimanded.
He would be great with another younger, active dog in the household or as an only pet if there were people around during the day. He is really smart and learned the dog door within 24 hours. He is also 99% housebroken after just 2 days. He is still learning his manners so some puppy training will go a long way but he will learn quickly!
He loves to run in circles in the yard, around and around. He was also very social with all the dogs at the dog park. He did periodically have to take some breaks and hid under the benches. But when he was rested up, he was right back in the pack having a great time. He is enjoying his freedom from the research lab and is taking full advantage of the world and wonderful people and things in it.
Please consider this wonderful beagle as a part of your family. He and Sal would also make a great pair if you are looking to double your fun!
Please contact Cynthia for more information on adopting a research beagle and please fill out the Online Adoption Application to be considered.
Hi! I’m “Wally”! I was stuck in a septic tank pit in a rural home site until a kind human came along and helped me get out. I wasn’t hurt but my right eye was glazed over. I was taken to a vet to be scanned for a microchip. No chip (no collar or tags either). The vet game me some vaccinations and recommended I be seen by an ophthalmologist. I am probably about 7 or 8 years old. The ophthalmologist said I was completely blink in my right eye due to glaucoma and recommended my eye be removed because of pressure and pain. Next day my eye was removed. It took a couple of days to get over the surgery, but now I am feeling great!! So, now I am ready to be adopted by a nice family who will love me. I am very lovable! I do have a bad habit of stealing food but have not stolen any recently because it has been kept out of reach. And I get along famously with people and other dogs. Please contact Betty if you would like to meet me!!

Mimi
Age: 7 yrs
Sex: female spayed
Hi, New Friends, I'm Mimi. I just got here after being surrendered to the Beagle Rescue people. My people had a baby and had to make the choice between me and the baby.
I'm a very tiny beagle weighing in at about 20 pounds. You can see by my pictures that I have a deformity in my front legs. I'm told that I'm suffering from dwarfism. I don't think "suffering" is the right word because I don't feel like I'm suffering. I'm just smaller than most beagles and shaped a little differently, but I'm still a beagle.
I'm 7 years old so am a middle-aged girl. I still have a lot of life in me. I'm a little overwhelmed here in my new foster home with all the other dogs around me. I'm timid so need someone who will be a little patient with me. I'm trying to fit in here, but I'm afraid of the other dogs. I back away if they get close to me. Some of them are very nice and others bark at me. The ones who bark at me scare me. I try to stick as close to Mommy as I can because she protects me. The worst one here is a nasty dachshund who just won't leave me alone. I'm hoping someone will save me from him.
My favorite pastime is chasing my tail. I have a shorter tail than most beagles, and I've never been able to catch it. I keep trying.
Everyone notices me because I'm such a tiny girl, and everyone says I'm very cute. I'm a good girl. Mommy hasn't even heard me bark yet. I will need a home with a patient person who will allow me to slowly come out of my shell. Mommy has another beagle here, one of her own, who was also very afraid when he arrived. She says he was way more afraid than I am. She also says that learning to know a timid dog is very rewarding because they bond to you so much more closely than other dogs. I would also like a home without any nasty dachshunds. If you're ready to accept the love of a very afraid little girl and ready to make a lifetime commitment to me, please contact my foster mom, Suzy.
If you have a dog who is in need of playmate - Bagel may be just the companion you are looking for! It is all about playing with this little girl. She wants to play so bad but all her foster playmates are older and just won't give her the attention she needs. She runs, pounces, and plays - you would never know she been neglected in the yard of her prior owner and never allowed indoors.
Bagel is an adorable and petit little beagle girl who was abandoned at the shelter by her previous owners because the children in the family "outgrew her". She is a sweetheart and wants to do nothing more than play, sit in your lap and give kisses. She is very affectionate and still is playful like a puppy. She gets along with other dogs and is good with children - although no small children, please, as she will knock them over and steal food from their hands. She is doing very well with her house training.. she doesn't let you know she has to go out but can hold it until you let her out. She is just about accident free.
Bagel is a great little dog and deserves a forever home where she will not be ignored. She would be happiest in a home with another dog to play with is because she still has puppy energy and just loves to play too much.
If you would like more information about Bagel, please contact Sue.
Hi, my name is Daisy and I am a three-year old, 15” tri-color beagle and weigh 22 lbs. I am spayed, current on my shots, and microchipped.
I was surrendered by my family to a shelter, and I was very frightened there. I am so happy to be in a foster home, but I’d really like to have a forever home of my own. I am an active beagle girl, and love sniffing and running around the back yard. I am friendly to people and other dogs, and I get along well with my foster siblings. I am house and crate trained, and I use the doggy door. I am a smart dog and learn quickly. I love going for long walks and I walk well on the leash. I am a playful, energetic dog. I will charm you with my eyes and shower you with doggie kisses and love, and I love snuggling on my human’s lap.
I will be happiest in a home with another young, playful dog to play with and keep me company. A home with an active, stay-at-home person, children over ten, and a secure yard will make me happiest. If you would like to open your heart and home to me, please complete an Online Adoption Application.
Lively, fun-loving, single, 6 yrs. young, fit and trim 15lb. female looking for a long-term permanent, loving relationship in an adult home/or older teens, who also enjoys life and good times!!
My favorite activities include, nice walks, cuddling on the couch, leisurley car rides, picnics in the park and playing lots of fun games. I am active, well-educated, housebroken, crate-trained, good in the house and even know a few fancy dance steps. I would love to be your "one and only" so I can have your undivided attention. I am really into having good times and am hoping to find the perfect home that has a great big basket of toys (I do so love my toys), so we can spend quality time playing with them.
If you are looking for that special someone that enjoys the same things in life, please give my rescue mom a call. I'll be waiting with paws crossed.

Odie
Age: 18 months
Sex: male neutered
Hi, I’m Odee, short for Other Dog. My name used to be a number and that’s no fun, so when my foster mom called me Odee I perked up my ears and ran to her. I have been in foster care for a few days and all I can say is WOW! The people that come over are so nice, they pet me and talk to me. I get treats and toys- for no reason! I can go anywhere in the house to explore or take a nap- there’s beds in almost every room! I learned to use the dog door and like to sit on the patio and watch what goes on outside. The scariest thing I am learning about is… stairs. I can go down but I need to be carried back up.
I have two foster brothers, Simon is younger and we play for hours, he never gets tired. My other foster brother, Alvin, has three legs but can run as fast as me! Although he is more grown up and usually just watches us as we play. Simon says Alvin is the boss so I respect him.
In the afternoon we get to play outside. I have never seen so much space to run and so much to sniff! There are other animals here, mom says they are chickens (which are not squeaky toys) and horses (those huge things are alive?!). I am curious around them but don’t get close, they’re scary.
I am still learning how to be a house dog, there is so much new stuff. I have my own bowl, my own bed and toys. I greet my foster mom and dad at the door when they come home, but it takes a few minutes for new people. I know I am supposed to potty outside, but sometimes I am having so much fun I forget. My foster mom says a lot of words to me and I am starting to recognize some of them, when I do she tells me I am “good”. I enjoy the company of my foster brothers but I really like it when mom lets me sit on her lap for extra attention.
My foster mom says I am very trusting and a fast learner so I will adapt to a new home quickly. I don’t know what “new home” is but I’m sure she is right. She also said it will be “bittersweet” when I go. There she goes again with all the people talk.
Contact the nice people at Beagle Rescue if you would like to meet me!
This is Salazar the Beagle boy; we call him Sal for short. He is between 8 and 10 years old and weighs in at 33 pounds. He was more than neglected in his last home; it is quite evident that he was also abused in his previous home. His teeth had been worn down to nothing and he ducked his head anytime you would walk by him as if he were going to be beat. My heart breaks for this sweet boy, he wants nothing more than to snuggle up next to you for attention and he loves his doggie bed. He is fabulous with the other foster dogs and puts up with all of the youngsters climbing all over him. Sal is very well behaved and wants nothing more than to please. He is not a barker, he does not get into any trouble like some Beagles are known for....he is good when left alone during my long work days and he travels well in the car.
Sal is an older Beagle but you would not know it to look at him; he is happy to take walks and keep up with the best of them. If you are looking for a dog with a sweet disposition and even temperament that will be good with everyone he meets including children; then Sal would be a great dog for you! Please contact Linea if you would like additional info.
Brandie was surrendered to a shelter located many hours from us after her family no longer wanted her. As the days passed she became more and more depressed as the realization sunk in that no one was coming; not her family that took her to the shelter or a new family to adopt her. A kind shelter volunteer posted information wide and far about Brandie’s situation and a Good Samaritan in Virginia read her story and contacted the shelter to make arrangements to rescue Brandie. Through her efforts Brandie was taken into a volunteer’s home until we could make the long distance arrangements to have Brandie come our way. Brandie was located 10 hours away from our rescue. Thankfully, through the kindness of many, Brandie made the trip north and is now in her foster home and is doing very well.
Brandie is a very sweet beagle and she has a wonderful disposition and temperament. She will be a loving and loyal companion and is ready for a family to take good care of her by spoiling her with love and kindness.
Please contact Eva if you would like to learn more about Brandie or fill out the online adoption application.
Fun loving Snoopy is looking for wonderful family to call all of his own. Snoopy is a great tri colored beagle who is sweet and loving and loves his walks. His foster dad has been working with him on his leash manners and Snoopy is really catching on fast. Snoopy does well with other dogs and children too. He loves attention and if you are not careful, he will quickly take a place on the bed and use the pillow to keep his head comfortable. Snoopy is ready to start a new life with a family who will treat him kindly and take him for walks.
Please contact Eva if you would like to welcome Snoopy into your home or fill out the online adoption application.
Hi, Everyone. You may have seen me here before a few months ago. I was the girl who had the injured front leg. It was an old injury that wasn't treated. The Beagle Rescue people had the leg amputated. I was in pain for a few days, but it turned out to be the best thing they could have done for me. I no longer have that misshapen leg sticking out at an odd angle and catching on things.
I'm 9 years old and am very overweight. I'm a very low-energy girl looking for a home where I can finally get the attention I deserve. I need to be adopted by someone who will be very concerned about my weight. A dog with three legs shouldn't be as heavy as I am. No dog should be as heavy as I am. It's hard for me to walk. I can't go very far before I have to rest. I need to find someone who will take me for slow walks at first to build up my stamina.
I'm telling you what I need. You may be wondering what I have to offer in return. I'm a very sweet girl who will love you for the rest of her life. If I'm put on a diet, that should be for a good long time. I will entertain you over and over again with my one trick. I know how to roll over. It's not every beagle who can do this, but I'm a pro at it even only having three legs. I'll even roll over if you don't ask me to. If I see you have a treat to offer me, I'll roll over and over and over till you give me the treat, but please make it a low-calorie treat.
If you are looking for an older girl who wants no more than to love and be loved, please contact my foster mom, Suzy, to learn more about me.
Connie is a 2 yr old, American Foxhound that is on the petite side and weighs about 45 pounds. Connie is looking for a new home that has another dog to play with and one that will take her on walks and spoil her rotten. The shelter staff and the vets all fell in love with her; her disposition is amazing and she is one of the friendliest dogs that you will ever meet. She is great with other dogs; not sure about cats and loves to take walks or run at the park. She is crate trained and enjoys going for rides in the car.
She has had some previous obedience training and is eager to please.
Connie will make a wonderful family dog and kids over the age of 5 would be best for any hound. If you would like additional info. on this sweet girl please contact Linea.
Hi, Everyone. I've been around here awhile. Mommy told me I had to sit down here and write a new bio for myself. She thinks the old bio was scaring people away because I'm such a good dog and no one wants to adopt me.
I told you before that I had allergies. When I arrived, I had patches of hair missing here and there all over my body. No one wants to deal with a dog with allergies. Well, the doctor said they were food allergies and to put me on a lamb and rice diet, which is what happened. I love my lamb and rice diet, and now all my hair has grown back. I'm a very handsome boy now. You can find lamb and rice dog food anywhere, and I'm happy to eat all you find for me.
I'm a very active boy with a lot of personality. I keep Mommy busy figuring out what I'm going to do next. She's used to the older or special needs dogs, so I put her through her paces. I'm a very sweet boy who will spend a lot of time in your lap if you let me. When you sit down at night at your computer or to watch TV, I'll be right there with you. I'm not good in a crate and love to sleep in bed with you. So even though I'm at times very active, I also have a very sweet side to me and have a lot of love to give to my person.
Some dachshunds are fine off leash, but I'm more like a beagle in that way. I have to always be on leash unless I'm in an enclosed area like your backyard or the dog park. I'll also dart out an open door if given the opportunity, so I can't be in a home with careless people who might leave the front door open. I also can't be in a home with cats. Cats make me crazy. I can't resist the temptation to chase them, and I'm fast enough to catch them.
I know I sound like a lot to handle, but believe it or not, I'm Mommy's favorite foster dog here. She told me so. It's because of all my personality and all the love I have to give. Some of the foster dogs here, you hardly know they're around. You'll know I'm around, and you'll also know all the love and devotion I'll have for you. To learn more about me, please contact my foster mom, Suzy.
Meet Wally. He is a petite 13” beagle who is very loving, gentle & sweet. He loves being very affectionate with you and getting lots of attention. Wally is neutered and up to date with all of his shots. Although Wally is the smaller of beagles – he is a bit overweight and needs to lose 5-8 pounds to bring his weight down. He enjoys being around other doggies and gets along very well with children and cats. He is looking for his forever home and would make a good snuggle companion.
If you are interested in meeting Wally, please contact his foster mom - Pearl.
Bessie - (Adoption Pending)
Age: 1-2 years
Sex: female spayed
Hi I’m Bessie the tan and white Basset Hound! My foster parents don’t know much about me other than I was rescued from a shelter. The vet thinks I am between 1-2 years old. I weigh approximately 28 lbs, so I am on the smaller for a Bassett. I could definitely stand to gain a few pounds.
I am young, energetic and playful. I love to go on walks but also enjoy receiving cuddles from my foster parents. I am not much into the crate thing and do not like being confined! I get along very well with my foster siblings and love love love human attention. I get very excited when my people enter the room.. That's what makes me so special. If you are looking for a sweet, lovable little hound than I am the BASSET for you. Please contact my foster mom Sandy if you are interested in meeting me.
Meet Bingo, a playful 6 yr old tri-colored beagle boy who is on the search for a new place of his own. He is healthy but could stand to lose a few pounds, and is up-to-date on shots.
Bingo is a real charmer - sweet, gentle, loving, calm, docile, independent but can be stubborn (as only beagles can be!) and sometimes lazy & loves to nap. He really likes to run in big open areas like the dog park. Bingo is not much of a barker or howler - he minds his manners nicely. He is quite gentle with gentle children but does not care much for wild/hyper/younger dogs or larger dogs. Also, he's okay with older cats but cat litter down at his level is a little too much of a temptation!
Bingo likes to sniff for food and may occasionally try to sift through the garbage can and is lightening-quick to snatch up any bits of food on the ground. He is potty-trained but due to recent living environment of no open yard, there have been a few accidents indoors so he will need a little bit of time readjusting to a new routine.
If you would like to learn more about Bingo, please contact Winnie.
